About Kay

Entrepreneur Turned Advocate

Kay Matthews founded the Shades of Blue project in 2016 shortly after the stillborn death of her dauther Troya Simone. The successful owner of Babycakes and Brunch shifted into full-time advocacy for Black birthing individuals just three years after launching her business.

Rights, Respect, + Resources

Black Maternal Mental Health Week is a Black women-led cross-sectoral alliance dedicated to ensuring that Black birthing individuals have the rights, respect, and resources to thrive before, during, and after pregnancy.
